om lye-free shaving cream is designed with willowherb (a powerful anti-inflammatory extract that reduces razor burn) and shea butter (makes the skin flexible and soft so that razor nicks are reduced). Its super-clean ingredients list includes the following:

What is lye-free?
Lye is the layman’s term for potassium/sodium hydroxide. This is a traditional ingredient used in most generic soaps. It is a basic molecule that when combined with an acidic molecule (such as tallow) causes soap to form. In the past, it was the only way to make soap. Many shaving soaps still use this traditional formula, which can often lead to dry skin. It can also leave a slick residue on your skin that can cause itchiness.
Directions:
- Dip a damp shaving brush into om lye-free shaving cream. Proceed to brush the cream onto the skin in circles. IMPORTANT: Add water to the brush as you go. This will increase the richness of the lather, and activate the lye-free technology. Continue until the lather is rich and creamy. Shave as usual, using ‘with-the-grain’ strokes.
